Tidvatten / Timeline

Tidvatten / Timeline explores family history and the different ways we experience time. Using photographs and material from my own family archive, the project traces several generations of my family from the late 1800s to the 1990s through two connected formats: a series of five handmade books and an interactive tarot website. The five accordion books follow different branches of my family chronologically until their stories gradually meet. Family photographs were edited and printed in blue Risograph, creating a continuous timeline that can be unfolded in different ways and read in either direction. The digital tarot deck uses the same family archive in a different way. Old photographs, illustrations, newspaper clippings, postcards, and other fragments of my family history were collaged and reinterpreted into a series of tarot cards. Visitors draw a card at random, allowing chance to create new connections between past and present. Together, the two parts explore ways of understanding time: one through sequence and lineage, the other through intuition, chance, and interpretation.
